The Delight is in the Details

Set high on an exposed bluff in East Chop with sweeping views of the sea, this new build is completely at home in its natural setting thanks to the classic architecture of both the house and garden. Our highest priority here was to coordinate our landscaping efforts with the builders to make sure underground infrastructure and compaction from construction would not interfere with the delicate work of carrying out the landscape design.

To protect the bluff from runoff or water saturation that could be caused by overhead watering, we installed drip irrigation on the waterside lawn, installing a simple gate and a thoughtfully arranged stone pathway to the home’s grand front porch.

A series of red cedar arches, fencing, and gates lead to various areas of the garden, enhanced by raised vegetable beds with bluestone edging and native fieldstone walls built by our talented masons.

Creating a contemporary refined look with fieldstone is a challenging art, but our masons meticulously trimmed and shaped each stone into a masterful arrangement that looks both rustic and refined. Little details, like the integrated bicycle grooves, are functional yet add character that sets this property apart. The result is a thoughtful, creative landscape closely connected to the island’s way of life.
